Tread Lightly Using AI in Marketing

Relying on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in marketing isn’t just a mistake—it’s a fast track to making your brand irrelevant. AI doesn’t create; it recycles. It scrapes the internet, repackages what’s already been done, and delivers bland, generic output. By leaning on it, you’re telling your audience that your brand has nothing original to say and no unique perspective to offer. Over time, your message becomes indistinguishable from everyone else’s—and that’s the death knell for any brand.

Marketing thrives on creativity, risk, and the human touch. AI delivers none of these. It can’t tell your story with authenticity. It can’t spark emotions or build real connections. Instead, it churns out safe, predictable content devoid of imagination or soul. Sure, it’s convenient—letting AI do your thinking for you saves time—but it’s also lazy. And laziness is not a strategy.

Recently Coca Cola released an AI generated TV commercial. The storyline makes no sense, and everywhere it just seems “off” for example if you look closely you see that everyone has the same smile and their faces don’t look real. People have relentlessly panned it – many label it as “creepy” and mock their former ad tagline of “Coke – it’s the Real Thing.” What Coke is saying with this commercial to a wide swath of their audience is that they don’t care. They seem to be comfortable abdicating marketing to a soulless machine because it is cheap and easy.

Audiences are smart. They can spot inauthenticity a mile away. When your marketing feels robotic and recycled, people will tune out. Worse, they’ll associate your brand with the very thing you’re trying to avoid: mediocrity. Over time, AI-driven campaigns erode trust, dilute your message, and turn your once-distinct brand into a forgettable cliché.

Here’s the harsh truth: relying on AI doesn’t just dull your marketing—it dulls your business. It kills creativity, stifles innovation, and leaves your brand vulnerable to competitors who aren’t afraid to push boundaries and think for themselves.

Your brand deserves better than cookie-cutter marketing. It deserves bold ideas, fresh perspectives, and real human connection. AI can never deliver that. Don’t trade your brand’s future for convenience—because once you lose your voice, you may never get it back.
